About
Thanks for visiting the Baseball Nickname Project! This site is a not-for-profit archive of nicknames given Major League Baseball players. I’ve had the idea for this site ever since my brother showed me his copy of “The Baseball Encyclopedia.” We spent hours reading that tome enjoying the various player nicknames. I wish that book was still in print.
Each nickname is recorded as it was used or reported. Many come from newspaper accounts or radio and TV broadcasts. Occasionally, readers of the site will submit a nickname and we will add it to the database after doing our best to verify its authenticity. We are constantly looking for new nicknames.
Please check out the other sections including our AI powered Nickname Generator* and the Scorecard which automatically fills out a PDF version of a baseball scorecard for live games. This page also has historical scorecards going back to 1901 for many different professional leagues including the Minors, Independent Leagues, and the Negro Leagues. In addition we have pages for 20 game losers and players who appeared in exactly one game in their careers. When possible we’ve provided links to the Find-a-Grave pages for deceased players should you want to pay your respects.
This site would not be possible without the fantastic Sean Lahman Baseball Database. That database is now maintained by SABR (The Society for American Baseball Research). I’m a member and you should be too!
Know a nickname we are missing, or spotted a mistake? Corrections and additions are welcome through the Contact page.
All the best!
